Clinic with Carlos Tobon - Oct. 2013
From October 10 - 13, 2013 a clinic with Carlos Tobon, Paso Fino Trainer from the US took place again at Paso Finos im Fliedetal. Even though the weather was not as pleasant as last year at the same time when Carlos was here, it didn’t influence the participant’s good mood and their eagerness to learn.
The clinic was fully booked with up to 14 lessons per day. Some participants had to travel long distances from The Netherlands and Switzerland to attend. All in all it was a nicely mixed group of different kinds of horses and people: from the younger to the older, experienced horse and from the Paso Fino Newcomer through the active leisure rider to the show rider.
„My biggest joy of teaching in Europe is the great horsemanship that people have. This gives the Paso Fino a great opportunity to shine due to its unique qualities and smooth gait.“
As already known from previous clinics with Carlos, he again impressed with his talent to deal with every horse-rider-combination individually. He payed attention to the rider’s wishes, how they prefered to use their horses and gave corresponding advices. Some of the participants had only very limited experience with Paso Finos and did not own horses, but could take lessons on our Brujula or on Machiavelli who is owned by Johanna and Stan Paul. Some learned which excercises they can include in their trail rides alone or in groups while others already had show experience and asked Carlos how they could prepare their horses for the show season. Carlos had suggestions and solutions for all of them, no matter the level of training of the horses or the knowledge and experience of the rider.
And as always at clinics, one does not learn only during the own lesson but as well by watching the lessons of other riders and horses. Some of the horses have been previously trained by Stan Paul. It was nice to see that Stan was present at the lessons with Carlos, where both trainers worked hand in hand.
In the evenings the whole group sat together for dinner and reviewed the day. In a relaxed, friendly athmosphere we exchanged stories about Paso Finos and our experiences and took the opportunity to address questions to Carlos, who answered them all in detail. Questions were mostly about riding, breeding, the Paso Fino scene in the US, which tack to choose etc.. Everybody who was present at the clinic, be it as participant or as spectator, was very satisfied and most of them already reserved their spot for the clinic in 2014.
