Registration of Paso Fino Foals in the USA

Since 2006 you have the opportunity of registering your Paso Fino offspring directly with the PFHA in the USA via the PFAE as an alternative to having your horses registered by other breeding associations responsible in your country for the registration of Paso Fino horses.
The PFHA has agreed to automatically accept all horses that are registered by the PFAE and have a PFAE registration certificate. This implies that horses do not have to be registered with the PFHA to get original PFHA certificates for their offspring.

Completing a Registration Application

For those of you actively breeding, selling and showing Paso Fino horses, filling out a PFHA registration application may be becoming almost second nature. However, there are still members who are confused and need instruction on how to complete this form. This article will discuss each individual section of the PFHA registration application and the mistakes commonly associated with those sections in hopes of clearing up any uncertainties.

The above stated costs and fees are inclusive VAT, subject to PFAE membership.

DNA kit via e-mail from the USA per horse1: Only possible if the sire has already been registered with the PFHA in the USA and there is no possibility to get a hair sample from this sire to test him in Germany. Mare and sire have already been registered and DNA tested with the PFHA in the USA.

DNA test per horse (German laboratory)2: Necessary for verifying the parents of the horse. The test is done via a hair sample from the horse. The DNA test is required only once per horse as the data from the test are stored centrally at the lab in Munich for further testing in the future if necessary. The PFHA requires a DNA test to verify parentage of the horse in order to register a horse. We have a special agreement with the PFHA who recognizes our laboratory in Munich.

PFAE certificate3: Required for mares/ sires who are not directly registered with the PFHA in the USA. The certificate is issued by the PFAE and only available for PFAE members.

PFHA membership4: Cannot be obtained via the PFAE. The application of membership must be made directly with the PFHA via fax. Payment via applicant’s credit card.

PFHA fee for foreign horses5: Starting May 1st, 2012, the initial entry of any foreign horse into the PFHA database as an “N” number will require an additional fee. “N” numbers are created when a horse being registered with PFHA has a sire and/or dam registered with an accepted foreign registry and not PFHA (for horses initially registered in Germany only possible in combination with PFAE registration certificate). The sire and/or dam’s information must be manually entered into the PFHA database in order for them to show up on the applicant horse’s pedigree. The fee will only apply to the initial entry, and there will be no charge to use an “N” number horse that is already in the database.
